Isaiah 28:16 CSB – “Therefore the Lord God said: “Look, I have laid a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will be unshakable.”

Our thoughts wonder in the wake of our Presidents address on Tuesday night and we wait, patiently and expectantly for another one tonight. Will the world ever look the same again? The reality of these remarkable times, hit our hearts heavily. We ramble around, trying to find some resemblance of normality. Yet, it’s nowhere to be found. The erosion of our normal has left nothing but confusion. Dumbfounded we sit, locked up, during lockdown. Is there any hope?

As a small business owner in South Africa, I ask myself this question over and over again. I sit with my Bible perched on my pillow and pray.

These lyrics fill my tender heart with trusted truth:

“My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust is Jesus’ name
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior’s love
Through the storm
He is Lord
Lord of all
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil”

The foundation on which we place our faith, cannot sink under the weight of change. Instead, our faith needs to remain firm. If we are swayed by our emotions, our anchor will slacken. We need to redraw our road map and get back on course.

Jesus is our only sure and solid foundation. He is the cornerstone on which we build our lives. The Cornerstone does not buckle or bend. Its composition is blood, spilt out on a cross; a beaten body, broken for our salvation; a Saviours love, poured out over our sin.

The kaleidoscope of change, will cause us to crumble but the Kingly sovereignty of Jesus Christ places our dulled perspective on to His ever so dependable character.

Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

We are living in but a moment compared to eternity. The everlasting promises of our heavenly home keep us anchored while we wait.

Let’s find our strength in our Saviour, let’s call on His name in times of trouble and let’s look upon His face to find direction in seasons of distraction.
