Learn Gods Word, Love Gods Word, Live Gods Word

Can you Hear?

Christmas is in the air and the Christmas carols are on loud. It’s December tomorrow! And our Christmas tree is going up tonight. The excitement in our house is uncontainable.

Often we find ourselves in seasons where the noises of the world cause conflict in our hearts. Whether we’re going through seasons of abundance or affliction, sometimes it’s difficult to decipher between to voice of the Lord and the noise of the world.

This time of the year, everyone is exhausted. Our bodies are sore and our minds are tired. We need rest. It’s often in these moments that we need to hear the voice of the Lord more than ever before.

I often say to my girls – you can’t talk and listen at the same time, so close your mouth and open your ears. Sometimes we need to take this approach with the Lord – talk less, listen more. Can you hear?

John 10:27 ESV – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Did you know that sheep have excellent hearing? However, sheep are easily startled. They get distracted very easily and end up getting lost. They key is to keep their ears tuned into the shepherds voice, and they will remain safe.

John 10:2-4 CSB – The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought all his own outside, he goes ahead of them. The sheep follow him because they know his voice.

“The sheep follow Him because they know His voice.” Do you know the voice of the Lord? Can you hear?

Christmas is often a time of family, fun and reflection on the past year. I encourage you to take some time and pause, rest and tune your ears into hearing what God is saying to you. What is He saying about the season your currently in? Or the season you’re about to walk into? What scripture are you pondering on? What verse has your hearts attention? Ponder on these things. Let’s shift our focus, talk a little less and open our ears.

Matthew 11:15 NIV – Whoever has ears, let them hear.

Revelation 2:29 NLT – Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

Creative task 1: Grab a pen and paper, or get yourself a journal and start recording what God is saying to you.

Creative task 2: If you could sum up your year in one word, what would it be?
