Learn Gods Word, Love Gods Word, Live Gods Word

The Gift of Gods Word

Psalm 119:2 NIV – ‘Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart’

Psalm 119:2 TPT – ‘What joy overwhelms everyone who keeps the ways of God, those who seek him as their heart’s passion!’

Do you view Gods Word as a gift?

For many, the Bible seems like a book of complicated writings that require too much brain power to figure it all out. So instead of pursuing a life of reading Gods Word, we choose to rather leave it looking pretty on our bedside table, unread – like a gift left, unopened.

To leave Gods Word left unread and unopened, is to lack understanding.

I would like to encourage you with this: all it takes to know Gods Word is a willing heart, eager to understand its truth.

The Bible is like a treasure chest of precious truths and we are the treasure hunters seeking out it’s wealth. However, it’s riches are not buried or lost. Rather, it is found by the faithful heart of a devoted follower.

We are called to dive into Gods Word, discover it’s deep pockets of grace, dedicate time to studying it and develop a love for it. And when we do this, the Bible assures us that we will be blessed, and overwhelmed with joy.

James 1:22 – Don’t just listen to the Word of Truth and not respond to it, for that is the essence of self-deception. So always let his Word become like poetry written and fulfilled by your life!

James tells us that we need to be readers, hearers and doers of Gods Word. In order to do this we need to submerge ourselves into Gods Word, so that it can emerge into every area of our lives.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.

His Word guides and guards our choices and decisions. His Word lights up the road ahead, like headlights that make bright the dark road. However, the headlights will only provide light when we switch them on. Gods Word only provides light when we choose to use it.

In a house full of people – two adults, three kids, three cats and a dog, I find it difficult to find a space of stillness. But when 5:00am creeps around, I slowly climb out of bed and crawl my way to the couch – with a coffee in hand, I caress the pages of my NIV. It’s words bring comfort to my heart before the choas of the world kicks in.

It is in that place that I find the answers to my heart-burning questions. In that place Gods Word brings ease to my wrestling. And it’s in that place that I meet with my Father in Heaven.

Can I encourage you to find such a spot? As we are obedient to seeking the face of God, He faithfully meets with us and we begin to dance with the King in a symphony of sanctifying scripture.

2 Timothy 3:16

Every Scripture has been written by the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness.
