My favourite time of the day is the very early morning. The house is quiet, my girls are all still asleep. I switch on the kettle and make my first-morning cup. I find a comfortable spot on the couch. I love my view of the tree life in our garden.
It’s in these moments that I meet with my King. I call, and He answers. I find my heart enveloped in peace. I feel safer than Rapunzel in her fortified tower. My heart in complete surrender to my King, desperate to hear His voice just one more time. I love that He speaks to me. I love that He loves to speak to me.
Isaiah 65:24
I will answer them before they even call to me.
While they are still talking about their needs,
I will go ahead and answer their prayers!
I search the scriptures and begin to fill my heart with His truth. His flawless and perfect Word anchors me like a drifting ship that has docked safely in the bay. That’s how I know that He is real. I know it because I can feel it. Sometimes, He is more real than the cup in my hand. I feel His embrace. I hear His call.
Psalm 19:7-10
God’s Word is perfect in every way;
how it revives our souls!
His laws lead us to truth,
and his ways change the simple into wise.
His teachings make us joyful and radiate his light;
his precepts are so pure!
His commands, how they challenge us to keep close to his heart!
The revelation-light of his word makes my spirit shine radiant.
Every one of the Lord’s commands is right;
following them brings cheer.
Nothing he says ever needs to be changed.
The rarest treasures of life are found in his truth.
That’s why I prize God’s word like others prize the finest gold.
Nothing brings the soul such sweetness
as seeking his living words.
As I carve out time for my King, He meets with me. It’s in these moments that my wandering heart is brought back home, secured and steady. It’s in these moments that I find the answer to my burning questions, the unspoken mutterings of my heart that I hold close. It’s only in His grasp that I find my purpose, I find my place. It’s in the sweet presence of Jesus that I find myself. In His embrace, that’s where I rest.
Move your heart closer and closer to God, and He will come even closer to you.
James 4:8
I’m reminded of this scripture in James. As I choose to follow Christ and make Him my everything, I begin to draw closer to Him and experience Him like never before. However, our God is gracious. His nature is kind and gentle, He does not force His truth on us. As I render my heart and give of my time to Him, He proves Himself faithful and reaches down and woos my heart with His whisper.
