Schools Back #2019

The stillness of the morning dawn has me mesmerized. The quietness awakens my soul to write. Its the first day of school and I’m slightly nervous. My Sophie is a bit anxious about going back to school – she doesn’t fancy change. My little Paige has no idea what a fun full packed day she has ahead of her. I’m anticipating a quiet evening ahead as my girls recoup after the festivities of the day.

It’s 2019. The new year has begun – schools back and work starts to pile up. I sit back and ask, ‘Lord, what do you have up your sleeve for us this year?’ I sense His smile.

There is something so refreshing about early mornings. There’s a peace that encamps my heart as I breathe in the fresh morning air. I can smell the sea. I feel encouraged to get up earlier tomorrow. Google reminds me that the sun rises at 5:21.

I don’t know what the year ahead looks like or what God has planned for us, but I know this – as I open up Gods Word, this scripture assures me:

Where could I go from your Spirit?
    Where could I run and hide from your face?
If I go up to heaven, you’re there!
    If I go down to the realm of the dead, you’re there too!
If I fly with wings into the shining dawn, you’re there!
   If I fly into the radiant sunset, you’re there waiting!
Wherever I go, your hand will guide me;
    your strength will empower me.

Psalm 137:7-10

As I walk into the new year, His hand guides me. As I walk into the unknown, His strength empowers me. As my kids walk into the challenges of a new school year, Gods mighty hand holds them in His firm grip and He gently carries them.

I drop the girls off at school, my one little girl’s eyes flood with tears which soon turn into wails that beg me not to leave her. I suddenly become a blubbering fool. The first day of school is filled with lots of heated emotions. I just didn’t think it would be mine. As she clings on to my hand for dear life and begins to contend with her change of scenery, my heart breaks. Her apprehension mirrors so much of what’s in my heart for the year ahead. And then my God reminds me, once again….

Because His [tender] compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great and beyond measure is Your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-24

And so I go into this new week and this new year singing this tune in my head – with a heart so ever thankful for His faithfulness.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

with much love,
